Dark Matter

BBL + Microneedling

Why choose between fixing the color or fixing the texture when you can do both? Dark Matter is our signature “stack” that completely transforms the canvas of your skin. We start with BBL Hero to pull out the red and brown pigment (sun damage, rosacea, age spots), creating a clear base. Then, we immediately follow up with Medical Microneedling to mechanically break up scar tissue and stimulate deep collagen production. It is the ultimate one-two punch: BBL cleans the visual “noise,” and Microneedling smooths the physical structure.

  • Strictly No Sun: This is non-negotiable. We cannot treat tanned skin with BBL. You must be at your natural skin tone. Avoid direct sun and tanning beds for 4 weeks prior.

  • Stop Actives: Pause Retin-A, Retinol, and exfoliating acids 5 days prior. We need your barrier intact before we perforate it.

  • Numbing: Please arrive 45–60 minutes early to apply our prescription numbing cream. This ensures both the light pulses and the needles are comfortable.

  • Cold Sores: If you have a history of cold sores, the heat and trauma can trigger an outbreak. Please start antivirals 24 hours before.

  • Step 1: The Mechanical (Microneedling): We start by gliding the microneedling pen over the skin. This creates deep vertical channels that break up old collagen and stimulate new growth. You will feel a vibration and scratchy sensation.

  • Step 2: The Thermal (CoolPeel): We immediately follow with the CO2 laser. This delivers short pulses of energy to the surface. It feels like a “prickly heat” or warm static.

  • The Cooling: We use a specialized localized air cooler (Zimmer) to blow freezing air on your skin throughout the laser portion, making it very tolerable.

  • Day 1 (The Heat): You will look and feel like you have a bad sunburn for 12–24 hours. Your skin will be tight and red.

  • Day 2–3 (The Coffee Grounds): You may see dark spots rising to the surface (from the BBL)—these look like coffee grounds. At the same time, your skin will feel dry and rough (from the needling).

  • Day 4–5 (The Flake): The dark spots will flake off, and the dry skin will slough away, revealing a brighter, smoother complexion.

  • No Sweat: Avoid the gym, saunas, and hot showers for 48 hours. Your pores are wide open, and sweat allows bacteria to enter.

  • Do Not Pick: You will have pigment flaking off. Do not pick or scrub it. Let it fall off naturally to avoid scarring or hypopigmentation.

  • Hydrate: Your skin will be thirsty. Apply a bland moisturizer or the post-procedure balm we provide frequently.

  • Sun Protection: You have no natural protection right now. Stay indoors or wear a hat. SPF 50+ is mandatory.

Efficiency. If you did these separately, you would have two separate recovery periods. By stacking them, you treat the pigment (BBL) and the collagen (Microneedling) in one appointment with only one weekend of downtime. You get “glass skin” faster.

We always do the BBL first. The light energy targets the pigment while the skin is intact. Then we microneedle, which utilizes the heat already in the skin to stimulate even more collagen.

Generally, no. BBL attracts to melanin, so it is risky for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV-VI). For those clients, we recommend Moxi or RF Microneedling which are safer for pigment.

Wait 24–48 hours. You need the micro-channels from the needling to close fully before applying foundation to avoid infection.

Yes! The microneedling component is excellent for texture and scarring, while the BBL component helps reduce the red/brown discoloration often left behind by old acne (PIH).
