UNDERSTANDING THE DERMAL TEAR

The Biological Reality of Stretch Marks

Let’s dismantle an industry myth right now: no topical cream or “miracle oil” can cure a stretch mark. Stretch marks (striae) are literal tears in the dermal layer of your skin caused by rapid stretching. Because the structural damage exists deep below the surface, the only way to genuinely repair it is by utilizing advanced clinical modalities to physically break down the rogue scar tissue and force your body to build smooth, new skin in its place.

What Types of Stretch Marks Respond Best?

We believe in setting realistic expectations before you ever step foot in the clinic. Lasers cannot erase a stretch mark 100%, but they can drastically fade its color, flatten its texture, and blend it seamlessly into your surrounding skin.

  • New, Red/Purple Stretch Marks (Striae Rubrae): These are the easiest to treat. Because there is active blood flow and inflammation in the tissue, they respond exceptionally well to vascular modalities like BBL HEROic or ClearV, which collapse the blood vessels and rapidly pull the red pigment out of the skin.

  • Older, White/Silvery Stretch Marks (Striae Albae): These are mature scars where the blood vessels have retreated, leaving behind a permanent textural depression. To treat these, we must use heavy-hitting fractional resurfacing lasers or RF Microneedling to intentionally injure the tissue and reboot your body’s natural collagen and elastin factories.

  • No Sun: You cannot have a tan (fake or real) in the area we are treating. Sun exposure makes the laser less effective and increases the risk of complications.

  • Numbing: We recommend applying a topical numbing cream (which we can provide) 45–60 minutes before your appointment to make the treatment comfortable.

  • Stop Actives: Avoid using retinol, glycolic acid, or harsh scrubs on the area for 3–5 days prior.

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water. Hydrated skin heals faster and responds better to laser energy.

  • The Sensation: You will feel a “prickling” heat sensation. It’s often described as a hot rubber band snapping against the skin.

  • Cooling: We use a specialized cooling air system (Zimmer) to blow cold air on the treatment area, which significantly improves comfort.

  • Duration: Treatment time varies by area size. A small scar might take 15 minutes, while a full stomach or thigh treatment could take 45+ minutes.

  • Immediate Look: You will leave looking red and swollen, similar to a deep cat scratch or bad sunburn.

  • The Downtime: Expect 5 to 14 days of healing. The area will look red, then darken/bronze, and eventually flake off.

  • Sensations: The area may feel hot and itchy as it heals. This is a normal sign of collagen remodeling.

  • Clothing: You’ll want to wear loose, soft cotton clothing that doesn’t rub against the treated area for the first week.

  • Keep it Moist: Keep the area hydrated with the recommended post-procedure balm to prevent scabbing and speed up healing.

  • No Picking: Let the dry skin slough off naturally in the shower. Picking can lead to scarring.

  • Sun Protection: The new skin is extremely sensitive to UV light. Keep the area covered or use SPF 50+ if it’s exposed.

  • Be Patient: Collagen remodeling takes time. You will see improvements in texture and color continue for 3–6 months after your final session.

FAQ

Fractional laser is designed to treat stretch marks caused by pregnancy, weight gain and body changes due to puberty as well as acne, surgical and other scars.

Fractional Laser can be safely used on most skin types. During your consultation, we will determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure based on a variety of factors.

You can expect to see an improved appearance of your skin tone and texture over the first 6 weeks after your treatment.

This is dependent on the size of the area and the condition being treated, however session can range from 30-60 mins.

Most people feel mild discomfort during the treatment but speak to your provider regarding pain management options.

Series vary, but depending on the condition being treated but 3-6+ sessions are recommended for stretch marks and scars.

Treatments are typically staggered by 4-6 weeks until the series is complete. You just protect the treatment area from light throughout the process.

Treatment costs vary depending on the size of the area and condition being treated, but $375 and up for a small body area and $860 and up for the face.

Pulses of fractional laser light are used to break down old and damaged tissue, triggering your body to create new tissue at the area being treated. This new tissue will provide healthier skin that’s more even in both color and texture.

Typically, you can resume regular daily activities the same day as your treatment, though healing can take anywhere from 5-10 days on the face and 14+ days on the body.

Anticipated side effects immediately after the treatment are redness, swelling and/or brown debris at surface of the skin is common and typically lasts 2-24 hours but could last up to 3-7 days in some cases.

Let’s be radically transparent: no laser, cream, or treatment can erase a stretch mark 100%. A stretch mark is a literal tear deep within your dermal tissue. However, advanced clinical lasers are the single most effective method available to drastically fade their color (pulling out the red or purple), flatten their texture, and blend them seamlessly into the surrounding skin. We use targeted thermal energy to break down the rogue scar tissue and force your body to rebuild a smoother, tighter matrix of collagen and elastin in its place.

True structural remodeling requires compounding effort, not a one-time quick fix. Depending on the age and severity of the tissue damage, most patients require a clinical protocol of 3 to 6 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Because we are relying on your body’s biological wound-healing cascade to produce new collagen, you will see progressive improvements throughout the series, with peak results appearing 3 to 6 months after your final session.

The cost of body treatments varies wildly depending on the total surface area being treated (e.g., localized on the breasts versus covering the entire abdomen and thighs) and the specific laser modality your tissue requires. Because we reject one-size-fits-all pricing, we require an initial consultation to assess your skin’s integrity. After this assessment, we will provide a Proposal Summary—a fully transparent breakdown of your exact treatment costs and timeline with zero hidden fees.
