Acne is not a hygiene problem; it is a genetic, hormonal, and inflammatory condition. At Sapien, we don’t guess—we treat. Whether you are battling active cystic breakouts, persistent blackheads, or the scars left behind from years of struggling, we have a specific medical tool for every stage of the acne lifecycle. Below are the protocols we use to clear, calm, and correct.

60 Minutes

weekly series

every 2-4 weeks

1–7 days
Pause Actives: Discontinue the use of strong Retin-A, Retinol, or Benzoyl Peroxide 3 days prior. These ingredients thin the skin, and we don’t want to cause irritation during the exfoliation step.
Don’t Touch: We know it’s hard, but please do not pick, pop, or squeeze your breakouts before coming in. It spreads bacteria and makes clean extractions much more difficult (and painful).
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water. Hydrated pores are softer and easier to clear out.

The Cleanse: We begin with a double cleanse under warm steam to soften the hardened oil (sebum) trapped in your pores.
The Exfoliation: A custom enzyme mask or mild chemical peel is applied to digest dead skin cells. You may feel a slight tingle.
The Extraction: This is the main event. We perform thorough manual extractions to clear out blackheads and non-inflamed congestion.
The Bacteria Kill: We use a High-Frequency wand (which creates a buzzing sound) to zap bacteria deep inside the pore and prevent future breakouts.

Redness: You will likely be red and blotchy for 24–48 hours, especially in areas where we performed deep extractions.
The Purge: It is very common to experience a “purge” (a few new spots appearing) 1–3 days later. This is the deep congestion we loosened coming to the surface. It is a sign the treatment is working.
Dryness: Your skin may feel slightly dry or flaky from the enzymes.

Hygiene: Bacteria loves new homes. Change your pillowcase and face towel immediately when you get home. Sanitize your phone screen and makeup brushes.
No Makeup: Avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours to let the pores breathe and heal.
Ice: If you feel inflamed or puffy, you can gently ice the area to bring down swelling.

Don’t worry, that’s our job. Book a Consultation or a Treatment Facial. During that first appointment, we will analyze your skin type, acne grade (inflamed, cystic, or comedonal), and skin barrier health. From there, we will build a custom roadmap that might alternate between peels, facials, or lasers depending on how your skin responds.
This is the most common confusion!
Acne Marks (PIE/PIH): These are the flat red or brown spots left behind after a pimple heals. They are purely color issues. We treat these with IPL, BBL, or Chemical Peels.
Acne Scars: These are textural changes—indentations, pits, or “divots” in the skin where collagen was lost. We treat these with CoolPeel, Microneedling, or RF Microneedling to physically rebuild the tissue.
Sometimes, yes—initially. This is called “Purging.” When we speed up cell turnover (with peels or facials), micro-clogs that were sitting deep in your pores are pushed to the surface faster than usual. It might look like a breakout, but it’s actually your skin clearing out the backlog. This typically subsides after the first 1–2 sessions.
Generally, no. You must be off Accutane (Isotretinoin) for at least 6 months before doing lasers, chemical peels, or microneedling because your skin is too fragile and cannot heal properly. However, we can often perform mild LED Light Therapy or gentle hydrating facials. Please consult with us first.
Most clients find it very tolerable. You will feel a warm sensation and a “snap” like a rubber band on the more sensitive areas, but we move quickly. It is significantly less painful than extractions!
For active acne, you can often see inflammation go down within 24–48 hours after a BBL or Peel. For clearing chronic acne, it typically takes a committed series of 3–6 treatments over 3 months to break the cycle. Consistency is everything.
Facials/Extractions: Wait 24 hours. Your pores are open and vulnerable to bacteria in makeup.
BBL/IPL/ClearSilk: Yes, you can wear mineral makeup immediately.
Peels/CoolPeel: Wait 24–48 hours until the initial healing phase is done.
Yes! We have a dedicated Back Facial and can also perform Chemical Peels or BBL on the back and shoulders to clear up congestion for swimsuit season.
Absolutely. We treat many teens. In fact, starting early with Teen Facials or Blue Light Therapy can prevent the deep scarring that lasts into adulthood. We also focus heavily on education—teaching teens how to cleanse properly and which foods might trigger breakouts.
