Radio frequency microneedling is a cosmetic procedure in Seattle that uses tiny needles and radio frequency waves to rejuvenate facial skin. The treatment is a form of controlled skin injury. The damage stimulates the growth of healthy new skin, which can benefit common skin issues like acne scars and wrinkles.

90-135 Minutes

3 to 6 treatment series

every 4 to 6 weeks

3 to 7 days
Numbing is Mandatory: You will need to arrive 45–60 minutes early to sit with our strong numbing cream. This is not a “no pain” treatment, but the numbing makes it very manageable.
No Retinols: Stop using Retin-A, Tretinoin, or aggressive acids for 3–5 days prior.
Cold Sores: If you have a history of cold sores, let us know. The heat and trauma can trigger an outbreak, so we will prescribe an antiviral to take beforehand.
No Sun: We cannot treat sunburned skin. Please avoid significant sun exposure for a week prior.

The Sensation: You will feel pressure and a prickling heat sensation. Some areas (like the forehead or jawline) are spicier than cheeks. We talk you through every step.
The Process: The handpiece stamps over the skin. You might hear a “zip” sound as the needles deploy and release energy.
Blood: There may be pinpoint bleeding during the treatment. This is normal and actually good—it releases growth factors!
Duration: A full face takes about 45 minutes (plus numbing time). Body areas take longer.

The Look: You will leave looking very red, like a severe sunburn. You may also feel a “pulsing” heat for a few hours.
Day 1–2: Your skin will be red, tight, and possibly slightly swollen.
Day 3–5: You may see tiny “grid marks” or rough texture where the needles entered. This will flake off naturally.
Social Downtime: Most people are comfortable being out in public with makeup by Day 3.

Keep it Clean: Do not touch your face. Use a fresh pillowcase.
No Makeup: Wait 24 hours before applying makeup to avoid clogging the open channels.
Skip the Gym: No sweating for 48 hours. Sweat contains bacteria that you don’t want deep in your skin right now.
Sun Protection: Your skin is vulnerable. Wear SPF 30+ religiously.
Moisturize: Your skin will feel dry as it heals. Use a gentle, bland moisturizer often.

The microneedle tip is placed on the epidermis. Microneedles penetrate the tissue. There are numerous settings for depth of treatment. Monopolar or bipolar RF energy is directly applied to the target area. Collagen remodeling and elastin strengthening begin, with effects seen weeks post-treatment.
RF microneedling treatment uses ultrafine needles and heat to penetrate the top layer of the skin and trigger the body’s natural healing process to regenerate new collagen and elastin. The number of passes and penetration to the skin will vary by patient and affect the results seen. The elastin and collagen building typically takes place 4-6 weeks after treatment, with optimal results usually seen at 12 weeks after the last treatment

If you’re interested in the procedure, you’ll need to meet with a healthcare provider, such as a cosmetic surgeon.
Prior to the procedure
At your initial appointment, your provider will ask questions about your medical history and expectations. They’ll also take photos of your face to determine the best technique for your condition, as well as provide instructions on how to prepare for the procedure.
If you have active acne breakouts, you may be asked to take oral antibiotics. If you have a history of cold sores, you might need to take oral antiviral medication.
During the procedure
Generally, here’s what you can expect:
After the procedure
You can go home after the treatment and return to your normal activities.
After your procedure, your doctor will explain how to care for your skin. This will include the following aftercare tips:
According to research, radio frequency microneedling is effective for many skin conditions.
Radiofrequency microneedling improves skin texture, pore size, wrinkles, sagging skin, scars, stretch marks, acne scars, and skin rejuvenation.
You’ll see results after 3 to 6 months. The exact time frame depends on the type and severity of your condition.
In most cases, you’ll need at least four sessions. This also depends on what you’re treating. For example, if you have moderate acne scars, you’ll need about three or four treatments. Bigger scars might need five treatments.
These sessions will be done every 3 to 8 weeks. This lets your skin heal between treatments.
After the initial set of treatments, the results will last about 1 year. It’s recommended to have a touch-up session once a year to maintain your desired results.
Typically, radio frequency microneedling is well tolerated. But like all cosmetic treatments, it may cause some side effects.
Possible side effects include:
These side effects might last for a few hours or days.
