Frequently asked questions about Advanced Clinical Microneedling

6-9 treatments, 4-5 weeks apart. Treatment times as series vary and results aren’t guaranteed. Home care and daily habits are critical to achieving optimal results.

For optimal results, a period of effective active treatment products, such as Vitamin A, C or Resveratrol is recommended to allow the skin’s strength to build up.

Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after 4-6 treatments. Your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments and when combined with the recommended post treatment care.

For minimum needed depths, microneedling treatments are painless. Treatments over 0.25mm deep, may require a topical anesthetic to be applied 15-40 minutes before the procedure. This will ensure a virtually pain free treatment.

Generally no, but you may experience facial redness for 12-72 hours after the treatment. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Application of a breathable camouflage will seal the skin and cover any redness for an immediate return to work.

It is recommended to wait at least 7 days after filler injections, so that any post treatment bruising from the fillers can settle. It is also possible to have microneedling done several days before having fillers injected. Ask your provider- we cannot dispense medical advice.

Tips for Advanced Clinical Microneedling

Bring your own UPF protection (i.e. Bluestone Sunshield) to your appointment as SPF will not be applied after the service and any light exposure will cause damage to the skin. If you do not have sufficient UPF protection, you will be required to purchase a Bluestone Sunshield at the time of your appointment.

MICRONEEDLING FACIAL—BEFORE AND AFTER CARE

No Retin-A products or applications for 48 hours prior to treatment.

No Auto-immune therapies or products for 48 hours prior to treatment.

No prolonged sun exposure or sunburns to the treatment area 72 hours prior to treatment.

The skin should be clean and make-up free.

If an active or extreme breakout occurs before treatment, evaluate on a case by case basis. Please text photos to 206-698-2431 for review.

After the treatment, take precautions against sun exposure. Do not apply sunscreen for 12 hours after the Microneedling treatment due to the skin’s channels being open for a period of time and due to the toxic nature of some sunscreens on the market.

Do not perform any vigorous exercise for at least 12 hours after treatment.

Do not apply make-up for at least 12 hours after the treatment. We recommend Lira BB cream for use post-procedure versus other foundations.

Microeedling may trigger a cold sore response in patients and prophylaxis medication should be recommended for those who are prone to breakouts.

Wash the face thoroughly a few hours after treatment. Gently massage the face with tepid water, and remove all serum and other debris such as dried blood.

For the first 1-3 days the skin will be very dry and feel tight.

After 2-3 days patients can return to regular skin care products or as soon as it is comfortable to do so. Retinoids and AHA’s may not be suitable at this time, so please refer to your specific post-care instructions.

Avoid alcohol-based toners for 10-14 days.

Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 10 days if possible.

Day 1: Erythema and red appearance and severity will depend upon how aggressive the treatment was performed.

Day 2: A red hue or pink hue persists like a moderate sunburn. Swelling may be more noticeable on the second day.

Day 3-5: Skin can be pink or normal color. Swelling subsides.

Days 2-7: Scabs may form over areas of scar treatments and skin may flake or peel. Do not pick or pull during the healing process as this can cause scarring or prolonged healing periods.
